hydro after sub

I decided to get help because I couldnt quit hydro on my own, so I went on suboxone three weeks ago. Doing great and then found out friday I have an abcessed tooth that needs either pulled or root canal.  Doc put me on cleocin and gave me Hydrocodone 10/500 for pain until my dental appointment tomorrow.  I havent taken it yet cause i know you cant have sub and hydro at the same time.....but Im really hurting.  It has been 24 hours since I have taken a sub (i have been on 8 mg per day) Is it safe to take lortab yet, cause im really hurting.....or do I need to wait longer?

Check with your doctor about this.  That is always the safest route.  Hope you start feeling better.  The antibiotic should start working soon.       sara

Determined - the half life of suboxone is 37.5 hours, which means it will take this long for half of the dose you last took to be out of your system.  Chances are if your last dose of suboxone was only 24 hours ago, you probably still have some of the medication attached to your brain.  I was on Suboxone for nearly 4 years and had to switch to hydrocodone once for dental work.  I did not have a problem, was on the hydro for just a few days and went back on the sub once the work was done and pain was better.  Just be careful with the dose of hydro you take because your tollerance may be lower - even though 8 mg of suboxone is a pretty good dose.  If you have any doubts, I would check with your suboxone doctor before taking the hydro, just take it slow.  Best of luck with your dental work.  Glad you are working on your recovery too, stick with it.  Keep posting, when you are ready to quit the suboxone, there are some great people here who can help support you.
