is sub a form of methadone ?

Hope this finds everyone better than yesterday, and tomorrow and even better than today. You guys said to keep you posted on my sub use, so here it is: My dr wanted me to take 4 mg of sub in the evening around 6pm and 6mg in the morning around 6am ( 10 mg daily ). I told him absoluty NOT. as you guys know i started out at 16mg a day which was way tooooooooooo much, and the past few days i cut it down to 6 to 8 mg per day, which was still toooooooooo much, felt like i was a zombie ( we all know the symptoms, i dont wanna repeat them again !). So, for the past two days i have only taken 4 mg around 6am and thats it for the day, and i feel fine, no more wd's and im not falling asleep, ect, etc. Is sub a form of methadone ?  is this what people on methadone feel like, when they take too much sub ? im hoping only the 4mg per day will do it, and then i know i have to cut it down to just 2mg per day, but i dont wanna rush it and i wanna see if the 4mg at least for the next 2 or 3 days is enough.

Dude, ! thanks for that very informative post, i really appreicate the time u took too type all of that. my dr. had me sarted on 16mg of sub, 8 every 12 hrs and i felt like a zombie, never mid the killer headaches, massive heartburn, consitpation, and nodding off while reading or driving, had to pull over andnod off !! its been 7 or 8 days and for the past 2 or 3 days ago, i started takin 4mgs around 6am and i was taking another 2 to 4 mgs at 6pm depending on how i felt, 6 mgs total. my dr. still wanted me to take 4 to 6 mgs at night and 4 or so another 12 hrs later i told him no way, cant handle it its too strong. i have no wd's whatsoever from the hydros i was on ( 12 to 20 10/325 per day) for 7 years, detoxs 4times and now im on the sub. today only took 4 mgs at 6am and at this time am decding to take another 2 mg ( max) not even thinking about 4mg or higher. i heard that it is very addicting from all the good people on this site who have had experciance with the sub and they all say to get off of it as quick as you can, please, more advice if you have any, thanks bro..........Mark

no suboxone is not a form of methadone, suboxone has actually two drugs in it, the actually addiction aid is buprenorphine, which is a mixed agonist(like oxycontin, heoroin, vicodin, etc..) and naloxone, which is an opiate antagonist, which is used in suboxone to prevent IV drug abuse. If you take it correctly the naloxone is ineffective, but taken intravenously you will experience extreme withdrawals. methadone is a complete opiate agonist, where as buprenorphine has unique chemical properties to it. it is a potent pain killer actually being 25-40% stronger than moprhine on a mg to mg comparison. and the lower the dose the actual more opiate "buzz" effect you get. after 32 mgs, where i was at for 8 months it actually starts to act as a complete antagonist causing withdrawals, so the perfect dose is between 4mgs-16mgs in my experience which is about 8 months. i was clean on sub for that time but after fracturing and separating my wrist i ended back on morphine, oxys, and norcos, so i had to get help and do something different. i ended up going to a methadone clinic, it is now been just a little over 4 months since is tarted there and ive noticed a huge improvement in my life since then. i am at 90mgs of methadone. i would say the difference between suboxone and methadone is that i could still feel a mild buzz on suboxone a couple months after taking it, where as methadone for the first week i was pretty messed up but now i dont feel a thing, but i dont have any cravings and no withdrawals what so ever. both are very addicting and need to be slowly tapered down if wanting to get off of them. also suboxone has a ceiling effect where a dose any higher than 32 mgs will actually have the opposite effect causing withdrawals, due to its mixed agonist/antagonist actions, thats why a smaller dose will give you more of a good effect. alot of researchers are ignorant to a lot of facts and think methadone is sooo much worse than suboxone, but from personal experience and millions of others as well weve all realized that the withdrawals are jsuta s bad and the possibility of addiction is just as bad. so for your answer no they are not chemically related but theya re both treatment methods that work very well for motivated ppl trying to stay clean and sober. one more thing, along with sub or methadone, counseling, group, and meetings are essential in staying clean while treatment, no drug is a miracle cure.it takes work, good luck to you and the lower the dose the easier it will be to come off the sub-christos

Hey.  HAPPY to hear you are taking only 4mg once a day and feel better.  I am not sure about whether sub is a form of methadone.  Ive heard they are similar but dont think they are the same thing.  Sub is an opiate and methadone is an opiate so in a way its all the same a guess...
