great post...great advice beach.
boredom/loneliness was davis' trigger. because he was shy, an introvert, he had a problem making new friends, joining in. the drugs did make him a different person...one that now fit in.
it took rehab...long term...before he finally "got it". i can honestly say that if we had not of sacrificed, he would be lost today...maybe even worse.
i tell parents of teens, all the time, to do whatever it takes to save your child. if they say they can't afford rehab, i ask them if they own a home. sell it...use your equity...rent an apartment. they may have to adjust their life...but their child should be their number one priority. we didn't have to sell our house...but we did have to sell some of our rental property to come up with the cash. that was a lose of several thousand dollars a month coming in to us...so we did have to adjust our lives as we knew it. would i do it again? damn betcha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would have sold my soul if that is what it took.
I do have to say I got a chuckle when I saw the title of the post I thought if it were only that easy .

Idle minds are the devils play-pen. After chasing that "next one" for years on end, it can be difficult to find enjoyable activities in recovery. But you have to give things a try in order to find your passions. A few things that I have found as good time killers are..........bowling, drawing, writing, going to movies, renting movies, Putt Putt golf, sewing, making music, listening to movies, skateboarding, people watching at the mall, walking, working out, going out to eat, reading and watching TV on occasion, but that can be dangerous and unproductive. If your anything like me when you got clean (broke, jobless, car less, friendless) I enjoyed walking a lot, while listening to music. Plus it helps you sweat all the toxins out. Keep moving forward in your recovery, and soon boredom will be few and far between. Let boredom take control and you will be to busy chasing that next one, wishing you were bored!
Bordom is a killer
Being bored is probably the #1 trigger and threat to my recovery. After getting clean, comes staying clean comes living your life. In or to live/enjoy my life. I usually need to KEEP BUSY
Good advise thanks for the post. Was thinkin of the motivational speaker,LIVIN IN A TRAILER DOWN BY THE RIVER!
Be aware of your triggers "Loneliness" the world can be a big place don't just sit at home and stare at the walls get out of the house and try an N/A meeting if nothing else to meet people and spend time with people who are clean and trying to stay that way..........
N/A has many social funtions they just dont include booze and drugs......dances bowling horseback riding etc.......don't just be by yourself it is not healthty..................
