is this a stupid idea?

So, I have 4 ultram that my sister gave me to try. doctor put her on them to replace the vicodin. I've read some of the horror stories of detoxing off of them, but was wondering since they are a different type of opiate, and since I only have 4, is there any way that I could use them instead of the norco for my taper. Like replace a norco with an ultram? What I was thinking was that since they are longer lasting, I could take one each morning for 4 mornings and one norco later in the day. After the 4 days stop taking the ultram and be down to one norco a day. Is that stupid thinking?

I had NO idea they were so bad! Seriously thought that they were like an opiate alternative...in a good way. Like a stronger tylenol or a celebrex type of drug.  I can see I have a lot to learn and research. And a lot to share with my sister. Thank you all for the advice.

Yep....my doc prescribed me a big bottle of them and said 'don't worry'.....when I argued that they are addictive he got pissy with me. ....will doctors never learn?? I flushed them all........didn't want to take a chance...You can get high as a kite on tramadol and you will pay for it later. I've read so many horror stories about the tram. that you couldn't get me to touch it with a 10 foot pole.
If you want to hang at your current 3.5 pills for a couple of days until you start feeling a little less anxiety that would be okay. What ever you want to do............as long as that 'to do' doesn't include the tramadol
you can do this!

I went doctor shoping 4 trams when out
Of other pain pills got to the point where
They were my DOC 4 a short time. Its crazy they r not considered a controlled sub.
Doctors need 2 wake up! I had 1 doc describe it as a souped up ibuprofen. NOT!

I 2 asked that same question, I had a
Short scrip of 28 100 milligram trams from my dentist. Was all out of hydros so
Thought what the heck. Needless 2 say the trams were gone in 2 days, the first day w/o the trams was by far way worse
Then day 1 of no hydros. I know u only
Have 4 but I would the trams alone. Just
My opionin tho, everyone
Is different. Good luck! & keep posting
On here it helps a lot!

So why isn't it on the controlled list, and why do the doctors make such a thing about it being non addictive? I guess that was the basis of my thinking...take the trams for 4 day (not enough time to get hooked on them), get the norco out of my system while doing it. But, like I thought....stupid idea!

In my experience doctors love to prescribe ultam to addicts, not saying you sister is an addict, but because it isnt on the controlled list, it gets them off the hook while shutting us up. I know this sounds skeptical, but, sadly the truth a lot of times. Tramadol is just as addictive, it woks the same receptors in the brain as your vics do. Please reconsider, besides, 4 trams arent likely to change the amount of withdrawal you feel anyway, only prolong the process. Good Luck to you.

also...not to excuse the stupid idea, but i thought just 4 days of the ultram to get me over the hump of the norco would be ok since the ultram isn't suppose to be so addictive...or so my sis's doctor told her.

Not a good idea to take the ultram to get off another opiate, not to mention they werent prescribed to you in the first place.  There is no getting around wd....only thru it.  You can do this.........sara

I agree with Avis, i too have been there. Not a brilliant idea, how many vicodin were you on? You may be better to just flush the tram, go cold turkey and just get through it. It will stink for a few days, but far less than an addiction to the ultram. God Bless.

the ONLY reason I was even considering it was that I only have access to 4 of them. I would NEVER ask for more or ask for a script for them. But you are probably right.

using one addictive drug to get off another is a very bad idea the last thing you want to do is end up addicted to the tram turst me I have been there its not pretty ...
