lortab&tramadol while early pregnant

So scared!! I was prescribed a couple years back tramadol and lortab for some health issues and have been taking them daily. I just recently found out i am 9 weeks pregnant!! It started out taking them as prescribed then escalated into a higher tolerance and shamefully addiction bec i have terrible withdrawals when i stop them. I take A Lot of them but since findimg out im preg i have cut back to enough that i can tolerate. I want to quit completely but domt want to have a miscarriage from what i hear. Im worried have i harmed my baby with birth defects. Can i get get an ultrasound to rule out any birth defects? Can they tell whether my baby has ten toes and fingers and progressing well? Have anyone heard much about tramadol and lortabs causing birth defects???? Anybody with experience with these two meds during pregnancy?? I havent been ablet to enjoy my pregnancy and this is my first child. I have never posted on a website before like this so i hope i can get a lot of support and advice well positive ones that is.i havent told no one about my issues and im really worried about the damage i have caused. I take both tramadol and lortab when i dont have either one available but im sick of this life on the pills. Help please!!!

Hi Hunny,

I can imagine how terrified you are by your post.  First of all, take a deep breath.  Its all going to be ok.  Im not a health professional, but I am going to guess that your baby is healthy and all there.  Fingers, toes and all.  :)   you can't stop taking the pills cold turkey because the wds will also affect the baby, so you will need to be tapered off them under Dr supervision.  Honesty with your Dr is the utmost priority right now.  They have seen and heard it all.  Your Dr will be your advocate and guide you through this proceess.  An ultrasound will help ease your mind and give you a glimpse into the beautiful new life you have created and will want to protect.  Im glad you are asking for help now before its too late.  Many pregnant addicted woment wait and don't say anything out of fear of judgement, CPS, etc, and that's the worst thing to do.  Call your Dr first thing and let us know how that goes.

U really just need to b honest with ur doctor. They will lead u n a right direction.I lnow that u will be able to find out the basics like the fingers and toes and i wouldnt panic as some woman r prescribed lortab while pregnant.BUT that said honesty will get u the assistance u need.I dnt know much about trams but I know there r risks with all meds while pregnant.a dr has to outweigh the pros and cons of certain meds while preggers.U r absolutely right though u have a serious risk of miscarriage quitting c/t.drs c this all the time and can help so b honest.they r here to help

Hello and welcome . .. . so glad you found this forum and that you want to get off these meds for the sake of your baby - and you!  You really need to talk to your doctor and be honest about what you are taking and how long.  He or she can help you with a safe taper plan to get off both pills.  I do not know about the effects of these meds used in early pregnancy; hopefully there will be some others along to give you more information on that.  I do know that you should NOT just stop them suddenly if you have been using them regularly.  Please call your doctor as soon as possible - you CAN get free of these!
