My experience is that bubulous is right..... I have had sleep issues well before my injuries and opiate use. If you wake up, get up. The more you force sleep the more of an issue it will become. When as a teen, I could fall asleep on a hard garage floor under a car while installing a transmission or engine.. then I got older.Right before I got hurt, I took nyquill every night to go to sleep. Then I tried otc sleep aids, finally I decided to quit trying to sleep, started working out lightly, took whey protein for breakfast, worked, walked 3 miles during lunch, and then came home, worked out and took creatine. After a few days, I could sleep great again.... I know it is not the same situation, but attack it the same way.. don't obsess over sleep, let your body tell you when to rest and pretty soon you'll be back to normal.
Two things helped me:
- Lots and lots of physical activity. Exercise, walking, basically just running myself until I fell into bed.
- Ambien. But it also made me feel iffy the next day, so I split the tablet and did much better on that.
Best of luck!
The clock doesn't re-set. It keeps going you just have to slow it down and start looking at it as a friend. If your mind won't stop and you are taking all that medication it is likely it doesn't want to stop. It is likely that your mind wants knowledge and you have to feed it. Exhaust your mind with knowledge. When a person can't sleep often time it is because their body or their mind is not exhausted enough to go to sleep. This may sound too spiritual for someone who has the expectation modern medicine is the cure for everything but if you try it even for one day you won't lose anything and you will be benefited greatly if it does work.....
Read a book on something that interests you or connects you with a higher power IE Bible, Art, Music, whatever does it for you.
Good Luck and you could also check out the mood disorders forum, just to read some knowledge.
Write your thoughts in a journal so that your brain actually sees what you are thinking in an orderly fashion so that it doesn't have to have racing thoughts that never lead to a conclusion.
