If you don't mind what kind of surgery or what level of pain she has been ?
The doctor should know what suits her best for her cindition.
I am in the medical field particularly Chronic pain Managment.
There is a BIG difference in oxycontin vs oxycodone.
The difference is Percocet is oxycodone(generic name) mixed with Acetomenophen (tylenol) and bunch of other buffers that account for 20% of the drug. So its weaker and less potential for geting totally hooked on it...
Oxycontin is Extended release oxycodone but PURE OPIATE. If she doesn't have to i say don't go that route right away because there is no way back to percoscet from OXY.
But i am not her doctor. so...
Please come back and say what kind of surgery and why she is getting two very different options of RX's.
As I understand it, oxycodone is percocet in a non time released form. Oxycontin is essentially percocet in a time release form...ie, take on pill now and it's effectiveness should last up to 12 hours...there may be more to it than that.
oxycodone's effects usually last approx 4-6 hours.

Oxycontin is slow release and you don't have to take it as often(usually every 12 hours). Oxycodone is faster release. Percocet is oxycodone but it also comes stronger. Does she have a history of drug dependence?
