. i am a nurse and have worked with cancer and hospice patients so i know A LOT about pain medication which is probably why i'm also an addict. i've given up the vicodins and now i'm legally on the duragesic patch. i have a congenital back disorder and have been told without surgery i'll be on pain meds forever. the patch works! i don't crave pills. i'm on 50mcg. i change them every 3 days. have you ever tried these? they might work for you. hope the best for you. we are here if you need us.---------------------------I was offered fentanyl patches from my DR.75 mgs to use every 2 days,my only concern is I have small children 10,6,and 2.My 6 and 2 yr old are in the climb into bed with us every night phase,I'm just afraid it will peel off and my 2 yr old with get a hold of it and at that age everything goes in her mouth I have enough problems I would never forgive myself if anything like that ever happen..She is also amazed with stickers, she loves stickers, putting them on her arms, face and legs, that was what stopped me from getting the patch, that and my insurance wanted me to try the MS Contin first.I also JUST want to get over these panic attacks at night,I can't understand why they are only at night, the ativan and valium don't work, breathing exercises, ipod,I can't shake them.It is the worst thing ive ever gone through and ive been through A LOT!!! in my life.Physical abuse, mental abuse,no father,I was an alter boy for 7 years and involved in that whole mess.My father was a drunk and one day when I was one and my mother was working he called and said he couldn't take it anymore and she needed to get home, when she did she found me tied to the front porch with a dog leash around my waist and he was gone,I don't know why I'm getting in to all this,I'm just desparetly looking for answers for these panic attacks.Sorry probably not the time or place to get into that,I'm just really a mess right now.

Yes,the panic attacks were so bad a couple of times I thought I was dying and went to the ER,it's funny because once I'm at the ER I'm fine.Ive had the blood tests, stress tests you name it.And yes it is very hard to function without the pain meds, especially with 3 kids.I can feel the pain in my feet it hurt so bad before they figured out what was wrong and put me on the meds.22 yrs of construction just really did a number on me.Thanks all for your support,I will continue to update.I'm usually on quite a bit as I don't sleep very much.ttyl

i am so sorry for everything that has happened to you. you didn't deserve it and you don't deserve the panic attacks now. there are other meds out there that can help. you need to see you doctor NOW about these. there is also counseling that can also help alot. as far as the patches are concerned, here's what i do. i also have two small kids 2 and 4 who love to sleep with mommy. i put the patch either on my right or left side right under my arm and then cover it with atletic tape i buy at the drug store. i've been on them for 10 months now and they have never peeled them off. wear a t-shirt to bed and if they can't see it they won't try to get it off of you. if they see it tell them it's your medicine and it's a no no. just try them if the mscontin isn't working. the first time you put one on it might take up to 12 hours to get into your system so have something for breakthrough pain on hand. once it gets into your system you will feel better. i wish that you had a more supportive wife to help you deal with all of this. are there any other family members that you can rely upon during this difficult time? i wish the best for you.

Have you thought about going to the ER and just be taken care of for awhile...
Is there somewhere you can bring your kids that is safe, someone you trust, anything like that?

Besides the anxiety , how bad is your actual pain??  sounds like you have alot of emotional pain too..i think most addicts do..i know i do, and i plan on seeing someone about it so i don't turn to another substance..
i understand about the patches and that would be a good idea but not with small children, you are right...
As far as the anxiety is there something else your doc can try..i have horrible anxiety and know eactly how you feel...my heart goes out to you buddy..
Have you ever thought about quitting ? are is the pain too bad?
