Hi im 23wks pregnant and im half way through an 8 wk detox off methadone. I changed ova  suboxone and im now nearly at the end only ive been reading that i shouldn't even be on this as they dont no the risks while ur pregnant. The other thing is i haven't even told my worker as im so scared that they will get in touch with the cps as they have already taken my other kids off me due to a nasty realtionship. that was in 2006 my other kids are now adopted and i really dont want them 2 take this 1 off me aswell please help i dont no what 2 to for the best cos every time ive been up front and honest in the past its gone against me.

thanks

I had an addiction to methadone when I found out I was prego. The only pain relieving Narcotic that is safe to take during pregnancy is, Meperidine- is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine.  I would not trust the subs. Every thing I have read about them is that they are very potent and they have not been out very long so we do not know what the risk would be on your fetus. You need to make sure that your ob knows that you are them. If you do not disclose this to them then you could be subjected to blood testing for drugs. You also want them to know this because it can cause your fetus to have labored breathing during delivery. I believe that a child belongs with the mother, if this is at all possible. You need to be prepared for the depression that will hit as well. I understand that the most prescribed antidepressant during pregnancy is Prozac. After delivery you need to be fit and ready to take care of that wonderful gift you were given again.  A new chance! You should think about continuing antidepressants for a while after delivery as well. Good luck and please setup a plan with your ob to wean you and the baby off the subs. Remember she is now addicted also.

In this instance ,for the well being and health of your baby, you have to be honest with your worker as well as your doctor. Not being honest in this situation is what could cause you to risk loosing your baby.I know it's a scary time for you,but you must put whats in the best interest of your baby first.PLEASE tell your worker and your doctor ASAP.Keep posting. All the best....Kim
