Methadone withdrawl - I thought it would be over by now.

I never thought it would come to this at only 20 but for the past year and a half I've been addicted to pain pills -- preferably methadone 20mg. It started out my mom (who has been prescribed them) occasionally gave them to me for cramps or the like but then after a very bad trama in my life she started giving me them everyday just to cope through hard times. She felt guilty - I felt guilty. Then it got to the point the pills werent as strong for me so I began to snort them (I don't know if this makes it more addicting or what it just needed to be included). Enough was enough and my mother and I were now both slaves to the same drug and just recently decided to stop it all together and start anew. I went through horrible withdrawls for a good week-- intestinal problems, sleepless nights, restless muscles, runny eyes, nervousness, and irritability. After a month and a half my mom and I made it through the thick but now while she is better physically and emotionally, I'm better only physically but not emotionally. I can't focus on anything for long periods of time, I can't carry on long conversations, nothing seems to interest me, I dont enjoy what I use to, and everything seems like a bother. I dont know if this is normal or what but its come to the point where its getting unbearable. I've had no help through this whole ordeal except my mother whom I'm very close to but cant give me the answers I seek. Someone please help, I just want this to end and be happy again.

hey guys, im new to this forum and im trying to kick the opiate habit. i have been taking 5-10  10mg of methadone now for 8 years and its the hardest thing ive ever done. i have been to a doctor and she put me on a mood stabilizer pill and it has worked. but my wanting to get a buzz keeps coming back. any ideas on what i should do?

This might be a latent response but I in no way think this is spam. I have been taking meth illicitly for a year and am going thru what mad_world went thru during her addictive time. I can say I feel exactly the same as her. Of course you don't understand her because methadone is probably prescribed to you and you can pop as many pills as you want! But this girl took the drug when it was not prescribed to her so of course at times it prob wasn't available to her as often as to her mother. I think this woman is the strongest woman in the world, even though she sees herself as weak like me and you. Look up to her because she had the balls to quit what you would never quit.

and im not painting methadone in a bad light its important for those who need to get off of heavy drugs but without that its just another addicting pain reliever. this forum is supposed to be for support and help of one another but it seems to have just become another gossip post where people arent taken for their word.

well i can honestly say thank you for your "support" because indeed they DONT make 20mg of methdone (methadose was what i was on anyways its just another form of methadone) i was taking 2 10mg a day. i thought i could come here for help but i guess i was wrong. thanks

I never read methadone 20mg tablet, I read 20 mgs. of methadone.  Which could be two 10 mg pills.  And I know 5-6 people who snorted methadone, and said it was a much greater rush take taking it orally!  Now, they ruined their noses, but they did it.

Your last post Lady is very true, and it is now forcing me to stay away. I still read a lot of the posts but I have stopped replying.

Truth dosent seem to be a priority here and I know that the Addict is the greatest liar in in the world.

Sometimes when you read bull-**** you can't help to speak out like you did, like I did.

Maybe now you understand where I was coming from...
I still read posts but won't respond to many posts...

I believe tapering or weening should be done with a doctors help, subutex or suboxone is a great way to avoid horrible w/ds............

Please stop referring to the unfortunate incident a couple of days ago, I really feel it is water under the bridge. And even though I did not agree completely with you about tapering, you have been a very veluable participant in this forum - you have given great replies and been supportive and considerate. Forget about it and keep posting, we all need all the support we can get.

im a little suspicious of yr post and am afraid u mite be a spammer trying to paint methadone in a bad light on a forum where it already carries a negative stigma.first,they dont make 20mg tabs so perhaps u are confused.2nd,snorting methadone would be like snorting napalm and in no way increases the potency or addictive potential.3rd,methadone has a 90% bioavailabilty so why would ne1 wanna snort it.i hope im wrong about u and if i am apologise profusely but......i dont think i am.

Glad you found your way here. I am on fentanyl. The most controlled class of drugs has only two in it. Methadone and fentanyl. I get mine through a patch and have been tapering down in mcg's for some time.

It's not unusual to get completely off methadone physically, only to find the emotional part still has a strong hold. The depression methadone brings is called PAW.(post abuse w/d) Your mind has to learn to function without methadone and that's very hard to do. Most drs. suggest an antidepressant to help during this time. Are you craving?? If you are there is a non-opiate med they use to help with that, also.

You have come a very long way and there is no doubt you have been through hell. It will get better. Never forget that. Group therapy and counseling helps, also. I admire you! Take Care....LS

Trust me-- the physical is rough but you will muck through mud to come out clean on the other side as cliche as that sounds its true. hi hun, sorry ya having a hard time :(
hey from what i read sometimes the blues take awhile . but whateer ya do dont go abck to using them.. its just worse all over.
I'm not past the physical part but im already getting depressed, so im trying to take the liitle good things that happen and hold on to them.
im glad your mom is doing better. and that you bot are clean!!! awesome
  im here to talk, i cant sleep so.. wish i coudl give you betetr advice on how long until ya feel better emotionally.
its only just starting for me so im no help, but anything i can do , im here kk?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!  You are doing AMAZING considering methadone is one of the hardest drugs to get off of, it sounds like the only thing left is to find a good counselor that fits you and process the incident that started you abusing the drug in the first place, then I think the rest will fall into place.  Good luck to both you and your mom, you both must be incredibly strong to have come this far!
