update went to doctor

On sub since monday.  Went to doctor today.  Told him 16mg worked for me so far (8 in am then 4 and then 4)  I almost felt like I needed another 2 or 4 or night I start gettling restless legs etc but I force myself to just ignore and go to bed.

Well he says yesterday 16mg is fine but instead of splitting up take 8mg in the am and then 8mg later.  Fine BUT when I was driving home I realized earlier he had said people that need it for pain split it up.  DUH I need it for pain.  THATS why I started on them to begin with.  So I'm thinking he does not realize yet what all is wrong with my back and thinks I just started taking them.

Plus I asked when do I start cutting back on them after a week or two and his answer was he was giving me an RX for 60 of them and come back in a month.  Hope that is normal?

Still not crazy at all about him - he doesn't really tell me much.

I was at work yesterday and at work I do get some free time to go online (like now) and do some other personal things.  So I typed up on excel a chart of what time I took the meds how I felt and how much I took.  At the bottom typed up my comments and questions.  Probably took me 20 minutes not a lot of time - but I wanted to be clear to him and make him see how serious I was about this.  (I know he thinks of me as a druggie or something and not seeing my real situation).

Anyways the girl (the girls are nice) say it's great I did that.  He gets in and says 'you must have a lot of time on your hands'.  I said sometimes.  He asked me for the second time.  Do you have a job?  Ummm YES.  ANd I proceeded to tell him (yet again) that I worked 5 min away - and he knew where cuz it's a big famous company.

Whatever - I guess he rubs me the wrong way.  I just feel this way cuz he never bothers to talk at all.  I've learned everything online.

Anyway good news is he ok'd this dose so hopefully I do good with it.  And hopefully I can take it 2x a day instead of 3.

I saw my doc. every 3 or 4 days - maybe 5 or six days as I went down on the taper.  Did the whole thing in 6 weeks.  Once a month?  That's sub. maintenance not a detox.

"Anyway Just curious after the 2nd time seeing your doctors - did you guys have a whole month before you saw him or did he have you come in sooner and more often?"

when I called around for a sub doc they told me Id come in one day, get my first dose, I'd see him for a week to begin with, then every two weeks then once a month. I decided not to go that route since I was off the meds and had no w/d's plus it was costly.

In my opinion, you should start going to meetings now!  Getting of the drugs is the easy part, like 10% of the problem.  If you start going to meetings, your whole outlook will change.

i did mine in 5 days at a detox and it worked fine for me. the docs want you on a higher dosage cuz it puts money in their pockets and keeps you coming back....

I was coming off 300mgs of percs/vics a day and I only had to take 4mgs sub every 12 hrs for a few days, the 2mgs for two days every 12 hours then 2 mgs after 24 hours. See the difference? And I was taking them for ten years.

"I'm coming off around 30 norcos a day - that amount for several months - before that took about 15-20 a day.  Been on them for 5 years."

hey .. thats good that you think 16mg is enough for you ... your dr though sounds like he might not understand too much about suboxone and what it's for and how to use it .. i'm sure their are other drs in your area .. did you choose this one because he wz cheaper or something?  just wondering .. i love my dr. I ended up making him my primary dr ... I went the first day, then back in 2wks, then 2wks again just to be sure everythign wz okay .. gave me his home number, cell# and even called me the first nite .. thats when i told him i wz still feeling really bad, w/d's and he upped me to 24mg's ... i now go once a month for a ck up and to talk and make sure all is good and i'm on my way w/a script...he never forced meetings or counseling either ... the first 4x's i went to his office i kept testing positive for thc and cocaine ... he told me on the 4th visit that i might as well go back on the pills because i wz using other drugs .. said cocaine usually makes a person relapse after coming off the suboxone and didn't want to see that happening to me ... so, for the last 3 mos, i've been clean from both .. it wz too much for me to risk to be on the suboxone when i knew that i could no longer take pain pills anymore ... it just was not an option .. so far he's been very impressed w/me .. is your dr older? ... mine is fairly young and i think that kind of helps ... maybe thats just me ... but my other dr., she wz probably in her late 50's and just didn't get "it" about addiction and was basically like, quit taking them .. and she wz prescribing them .. but i no longer see her ...

Good for you ... you sound good too from the first time coming on here .. thats awesome ... good luck to you ... keep up the good work ... look into finding another dr who is willing to listen and talk to you about what is going on ... peace!!!  have an awesome weekend!!!!

You know that's the other things.  He never mentioned meetings, couselings, anything.  I know it's up to me but WTH he doesn't say anything to me. :(  Whtaever I know I can do this either way I just really think I might look for a waiting list for a new doc.

You start going to meetings yet?

My doc. had me split it into 2 doses - 8 in the am and 8 at 4 or 5 pm - quite normal.  As I got to lower doses - like 4mg - he wanted me to take it all in the morning, but I metabolized it very quickly and would feel not so hot by 5 pm so he let me keep on splitting it up.

I went every 2 weeks - every time the dosage was decreased.  Then he still called me in between just to see how I felt, etc.  After I stopped completely, I went in once and then again in a month just so he could check my vitals.  I actually saw him at our mall the other day and he gave me a hug and told me how proud he was of me and said I looked great.  He is an awesome doctor.  Maybe he felt a little guilty since he was the one that perscribed them!!  Anyway, I am glad he stuck by me, and my husband was super!  By the way, I finally talked to my 22 year old daughter last week - we had never really discussed it.  I just told her I was sorry, and then we both burst out crying!  She just hugged me and said "I love you" and told me I was a great mom and she just wanted to see me happy and and seen the change.  God, that made all the withdrawal in the world worthwhile.

I also heard that 16mg is average. Or 16-24 mg is average for 90% of people starting off a qty like that?

Anyway Just curious after the 2nd time seeing your doctors - did you guys have a whole month before you saw him or did he have you come in sooner and more often?

Hi sweetie - the doc is critical in my opinion.  My doctor knew exactly what I was doing, set up a tapering schedule with me, had me return to check vitals, called me to see how I was feeling, etc.  He was just really instrumental in my success.  If I were you I might consider finding another doctor who seems to care a little more.  Good luck to you!!
