Certain doctors who are licensed to treat with suboxone. In the first year they are licensed they can only have 30 patients they are treating with the suboxone and after that initial year they can have up to 100 at a time. Did you know that they only do an 8 hour training to prescribe and it can be online or in person? That is less time than a real estate agent who sells houses (60 hours). I'm not sure about the whole Suboxone thing. My husband is on Suboxone right now and has debated going off recently when an article shows up today (1/2/2009) in our local paper (The New London Day) ranting and raving about Suboxone. I don't know since I am not the one on it. He (my husband) ran out of it a couple of days ago and experienced horrible symptoms which sent him to the ER and back on the Suboxone. We don't even have insurance right now and 9 pills is like $45.00. I would really look in to as much as you can before jumping on the roller coaster. Good luck ( and sorry to run on and on, just very frusterated with the fact that there is absolutely nothing I can do for him right now.)

I agree with all of you! I live in a small town which is also where my family doctor is, so i decided to go out about 50 - 100 miles in my search for a "addiction doctor". The first place i called was GREAT! The girl made me an appointment for the 3rd of November and said it wouldnt be a problem to get on suboxone! I cant wait! Im so ready to get off these! I am taking two to three at a time to even get a little relief (including wearing two duragesic patches 50mg)...and then the relief is only for about an hour to two hours. I do have back issues, but Im starting to believe I would rather deal with the back pain than to spend everything i have on pain management that never ever works good enough to not hurt. I believe that taking all these pains meds cause me to lose my tolerance to pain, so the slightest pain is so much worse than it would be normally...I believe i can get through this and I believe its a great step to take. I am going to try to not mix my family doctor into any of this, just incase i cant bear living with the pain... thank you for all your help!

I have to agree with ray never admit to your regular physican about using painkillers they might black ball ya.  Anyways as of this year the state of ILL has made it really hard for all of us opiod users.  Everytime you get a narctic filled even paying with cash they can track you through there lovely DEA website by typing in your name and birthdate.  It is a real treat and alot of the reason why I want to get off of them so depending on what state your in they may already know who you have seen and for what reason.  Nicole

My advice, never, ever admit to your own doctor that you are having any sort of drug problem if you have legitimate pain issues.  That will almost certainly result in some sort of undesirable cascading effect of you losing your pain meds, being labelled a "drug seeker", "criminal", "drug addict", or just plain "loon".  You will have your scripts pulled by a doctor who I assume is familiar with and sympathetic to your pain management needs, and if, God forbid, your condition worsens and you find that you need something stronger like Dilaudid or straight OxyContin for instance, good luck.

Why ya want off yer pain meds anyway?  I assume that you do indeed suffer from pain?

go to the turn to help website.  It will list all the docs by your zip code that can precribe sub.  Not ever doc can precribe that medication.
