Either I experiment in treating myself or go to my alternative medicine physician. He is not part of my insurance system so I have to limit my dependence on him. But he is a good fellow and will answer my e-mails. Much of endocrinology is uncharted territory, and some results are achieved by trial and error. Also, since each person may have different reactions to treatment, what works for me may not work for you.
I have seen 3, and they were all a BIG FAT DISAPPOINTMENT.
When you are SO SO sick and needing help, and then you go to these drs that don't know didly about the adrenal gland.
It is so disheartening and makes you wonder how you will EVER recover if the so called specialists that are supposed to have gone to school to know how to fix this, don't know.
I just gave up and researched and have treated myself. I am much less expensive, and I don't insult my intelligence either.
The only one I ever went to was definitely "different." I had a 5-hour glucose test. After the baseline test they give you his horrible glop to drink ant then test your blood-sugar hourly. Normally the blood sugar rises. Mine fell and fell and fell (below 50) and only vaguely started to recover with the last test. A clear case of reactive hypoglycemia. The doctor looked over the test and assured me I did not have diabetes. Wow, wasn't that a surprise!
I never went back to him again. Instead I bought Carlton Fredericks' book "Low Blood Sugar and You." Much cheaper and I didn't have to get angry.
Boy, are they different and not in a good way. They have high opinions of themselves and low opinions of us. I think they have found a way to make more money with less stress on their brains. Sad thing is they have so many MD's fooled into becoming their followers. There are people on this forum with more smarts than any Endo I have found.
I've had endo's who are odd, erratic, egotistical, stubborn and frankly unaware of endocrinology! But I have a very good one now.
I've had 3 all useless! Does this discipline attract a particularly arrogrant type?
One told me endocrinology was a very controversial area!!! My heart was bleeding or him (not!) having to deal with controvers and patients!!
Jon Hamm is SO hot! I wish I could have that dream! lol! :)
I had a dream last night that my Endo was Jon Hamm from Mad Men! Then my puppy woke me up......: (
Dear rumpled and emailyv:
Ha ha ha........
I think most of them don't give a rats *** and that they don't really know what they are doing.
They give a test and don't even understand what it TRULY is testing.
Example, I have the lowest normal blood cortisol morning level, but the ACTH came back normal... so the endo says I'm fine. Any idiot can look up what the ACTH tests. It tests to see if the primary cause is the reason for my low cortisol... it does NOT say I do not have low cortisol and need help. MORONS!
It takes a lot of work to find a good one.
When I am with a bad one... while they are saying something stupid... I used think about kicking them in certain parts - but maybe that was the high cortisol speaking....
