Is blood cortisol test accurate

Hi,
I had my blood cortisol tested at 2pm yesturday.  My level is 9.3.  I am doing 24 hour urine cortisol test now, and the hostpital does not do 24 hour cortisol saliva test.

I have severe adreanal fatigue.

I read a book last night called Adrenal fatigue - 21st century, filled out the questionnaire, and scored severe adrenal fatigue, and the Dr. that wrote the book said, 24 hour urine cortisol only test for Addison's disease, not Adrenal fatigue, and only 4% of the population has Addison's.

This is so frustrating !!!!!!!  Now I am convinced Klonopin, has done permanent damage to my body system.  Every blood/urine test the past 2 years returns normal.  All my trouble began after I stopped taking Klonopin.

So is 24 hour saliva test the most accurate, for testing Adrenal fatigue ??  Is there a home kit, I can perform the test myself, any information pertaining to adrenal fatigue appreciated.

If uncomfortable posting answer here, please email.
Thanks

A chiropractor\nutritionist did my son's saliva test through Diagnos Techs. He found the adrenal insufficiency problem before the other doctors did. You might be able to ask for this test through a nutritionist.

NO!  The 24 hour urine test will ONLY show your cortisol output for that 24 hour time frame.  If you are low at various times of the day you'll never know.  My urine test came back high, which provided false info.  Some of the docs excused it as a "fluke" because I had low morning cortisol and insisted this wasn't scientifically possible.  Some thought I had Cushing’s.

Was the blood cortisol test done an 8 am?  That is when your blood cortisol should be done?

I don't reply on the blood test.  I was low and had the ACTH tests then ATCH stim test and it was normal so traditional tests didn't help me ONLY cost my insurance company a lot of money and left me with no hope.

What revealed my phrase 4 Adrenal Fatigue (low morning/noon but high afternoon and evening cortisol) was getting an ASI (Adrenal Stress Index) saliva test.  You provide a salvia sample four times throughout the day.  I tested at DiagnosTechs because they also include other meaningful related tests.  My insurance paid for it.  The only drawback is your doctor must order it.  They have a list of doctors they work with on their website as traditional doctors won't help until you’re almost dead and then you’re lucky if they do.  Google DiagnosTechs for more info.

Klonopin is nasty stuff, but don't look back try to fix what you have in front of you. It may take an alternative dr too.  I'd put away the Dr. James Wilson book and read "The Safe Uses of Cortisol" by William Jefferies.  You may be able to get it at your local library.

With any Adrenal issue it is of utmost importance that you eat small frequent meals --balance your carbs, protein, fats and whole grains-- don't eat refined foods, no alcohol, no smoking, get to sleep by 10 pm, exercise regularly --even if it's just walking, drink lots of water.  Live an unstressful lifestyle as possible, otherwise you could become incapacitated and very sick.

Good luck,
~~Sherta
