Is it possible for an adrenal problem to affect one side of the body more than the other? Here's my story.
I'm a 30 year old male who was under a lot of stress for a period of time beginning in late July. Shortly thereafter I began to have occasional issues when I'd eat or drink something, where it felt like my adrenaline would go out of control afterwards. Sometimes this would last an hour, and sometimes it would last an entire night. I then started having an issue where I would doze off at night for maybe 30 minutes, and jolt awake with my heart pounding as though I had been scared to death. This feeling would also last the entire night, as though I couldn't shut it off.
Mid-August is when something weird happened. I woke up at about 4 AM feeling as though adrenaline had been poured only into the LEFT side of my body. My heart was pounding and I could feel every pulse point on my left side throbbing, but my right side felt completely normal. My BP and pulse weren't particularly high, but this left-side pounding was very real. This harder-than-normal heartbeat went on for about two weeks, during which time I had a ton of heart tests done that found absolutely nothing. Doctors wrote it off as anxiety of course, but anxiety doesn't last 24/7 for weeks at a time.
The hard heartbeat eventually went away, but then it seemed I had the opposite problem. I started feeling really fatigued, my BP and pulse fell to lower-than-normal levels, I started having trouble concentrating, etc. Again the doctors wrote it off as nothing.
I have no idea what to do next. I tend to feel okay in the mornings and the evenings, but in the afternoons I crash. I often feel as if my body isn't getting enough oxygen on the left side, but my right side feels fine. They say this isn't a heart issue, and I don't think it's a neuro issue (no muscle weakness, twitching, etc), so could it be an adrenal issue?
I had my thyroid checked at the end of July (before any of this started happening), and my TSH was 1.42. Perfectly normal. I have an appointment with an ND this week and a cardiologist next week, so I hope someone finds something to explain this. Anyone have any ideas?
