This is not a question. I just wanted to let everyone know, that isn't aware, that there is a company that has formed with the sole purpose of creating a new drug to treat all forms of adrenal insufficiency. The company, based in Sweden, is named Duocort AB. They have conducted the largest survey ever done of 1200 patients with adrenal insufficiency. The majority of respondants were from the US. The survey finds that most patients are not satisfied with their current treatment. Many report that they have a poor quality of life. I have secondary adrenal insufficiency caused by a pituitary tumor and surgey. I am looking forward to getting the drug for my treatment. It will have to be better than what is offered now. You can find the results of the survey by following this link.

There is also a good discussion of what led up to this including a paragraph about how it is impossible for current medications to work as your body did before your adrenal insufficiency. You can read that here.

Although I don't expect Duocort to fix the problem, I do hope to have a better quality of life. I have read a few posts here and many at other forums and I have heard without exception that we (patients with adrenal insufficiency) are rarely taken seriously and are left to struggle on our own to try and live with this disease. I am very disappointed with the medical community in my area. That's why I find it so comforting to know that at least there is a possibility that we can get some relief from this disease. Doucort is expected to be realease in Europe in mid 2010. There is no estimated date for release in the US although it has been approved for classiication as an orphan drug by the FDA.
I do not understand why the medical community in the US appears to be deaf to the voices of all of the sufferers of adreanal insufficiency especially in the US. You would think that it would be a huge wake-up call to Endocrinologist in the US that there has been a company formed with it's only purpous to help the thousands of people with this disease. My doctor looks at me like I'm crazy when I tell him tht I still don't feel well. He's convinced that you take the Hydrocort, end of story. You're fixed. I hate to knock any professional, I'm one myself, but it seems to me some doctors are slaves to their tests and procedures and rarely think outside the box.
Sorry for rambling on. I wish everyone well.
