abnormal cortisol a.m. level

I had a cortisol a.m. test, I took a dexamethazone pill the night before. my results came back 1.1 L  what does this mean and how did the dex effect the results.

The dex should have been taken at 11pm, at the test should have been fasting at 8am the next morning.

The dexamethasone is supposed to stimulate the pituitary to form ACTH which in turn gets the adrenals to produce cortisol.

You suppressed so your doctor may say that this is a normal result. A lousy doctor will stop testing at this point. 1.8 is the cut off for most.

In reality, this is a very unreliable test. I failed (as well as hundreds of my Cushing's buddies) and we still had Cushing's. So other tests need to be done.Used with other tests, it can indicate the location of the source of the cortisol.
