High glucose in stool sample

Hello,

I had a stool sample done for lactose intolerance and I'm a bit confused about the results. 0-1 was normal and these were what I got

Galactose 1
Glucose *13
Lyxose (or Xylose, I can't remember what it was) 1

My doctor kinda said the high glucose was ok but I'm not so sure as 0-1 was normal and mine was 13.

Also, the 13 had a star in front of it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thank you!

In simple terms, what happens is that undigested lactose passes into the large intestine where, in several different ways, it is broken down into glucose, which then is passed out of the body in the stool. So a finding of high glucose in stool is not surprising in someone who is lactose intolerant.

Definitely follow up with your doctor about this to make sure that nothing else is going on, and to see what if anything you should do about the lactose intolerance other than, obviously, avoid lactose.
