Can't take Prednisone

I was diagnosed with asthma a year ago and have been treated with Advair, Singulair and Albuterol as needed. I have been under good control until I was recently diagnosed with an eye conditon called central serous retinopathy. I was told by the retinal specialist that I can take no form of prednisone unless it is a life threatening issue because it could worsen the eye condition. Now I am having problems with my asthma since I have been off the Advair.Any suggestions?

Hi,

Prednisolone is an oral steroid medication nad istherefore to be avoided in the eye condition that you have.

But why have you stopped taking advair - these are steroid inhaler medications with almost no systemic side effects and therefore can be safely taken in your case.

The best option for your asthma is definitely inhaler medications and you can continue to take them, with regular follow ups with your chest specialist and eye specialist too.

Try to avoid any steroid oral medications.

Talk to your doctor about this again and clear out any doubts that you have.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other queries.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
