Red Itching Rash

My daughter is 12 and has a rash since Christmas morning (3 days ago) after trying on new p.j.'s.  Only had them on less than 5 minutes. The rash is itching and spreading.  I have been giving her Benadryl every 4 hours orally and applying topical Benadryl Gel constantly.  It is not working!!!  Took her to the ER and they said to keep doing what I am doing as he "the doctor" did not know too much about this kind of rash.  He only knows about life threatening rashes he said.  Are you kidding me!!  She is not sleeping.  Her skin is so hot and tight and swollen at times.  I am so worried and concerned.  Please Help.

Hi, understand your anxiety. If the rash is not worsening and if it is responding to the benedryl, continue the same. If worsening then she may need steroids to help with her symptoms. You can request for longer acting antihistamines from your treating doctor. Local measures like ice packs and antipruritic lotions are helpful. Try these. If they worsen then take her to the ER. Regards.
