Hi, sorry to see your going threw this with your dad, my prayers are with ya at this time when you will need help to get threw this journey your taking with your dad, my mom was on the pills also , I didn't care for them, they did seem to make her sleep more but I also know she had nothing elsa to do and was at more peace when she was sleeping, My mom would also fall, but most when she had a uti has he been checked for that, they make things so much worse, so please have him checked for that,
Have you talked to his dr about your concern, you can always cut the pill in half that's what we did with mom, but like the nurse told us , with this alz they do sleep a lot more and their muscles get weak and like mom she forgot how to walk, sad mom was in bed for 11 months before she passed, but it never bothered her, she never ask to get out or even tried she just landed there everyday and we sat beside her and held her hand,
I pray you have help and can get rest, it takes a lot out of the love ones caring for them, here if you want to talk, plz keep in touch
I know you posted your question years ago, but wondering how your mom is doing. My dad has Alzheimers (he is now at the severe stages) and has been on Risperdone for 3 months but on a higher dose for 1.5 months now. He had always had done dizziness and loss of balance but the last week has been terribly bad w his walking and falling. Very very slow.
When I read how your mom was on Zoloft and Namenda - this is exactly what my dad is on so I thought I would ask you how your mom is/was doing. Did she stay on Risperdone? Thank you so much for your response.
I used to work in a care assisted living facility for persons with dementia and alzheimers. We used respiridal for some of our residents. I can not honestly say that the ones getting it were sleeping all of the time. Can I ask what stage is you mom in for alzheimers? it seems that when you go from about stage 2-3 you can get sleepy all of the time.
but I honestly can not remember. I would also look at her medications you could be correct that it is too much of a dose.
Good luck
Michelle
