ALS Symptomes?

Hi. For about 3.5 weeks now I've had a lot of weakness in my arms and legs. It kinda comes and goes... sometimes it's bad and some days I can't even feel it. Is the weakness in ALS constant or fluctuating? And I'm not sure if I'm just imagining this but the sole of my foot seems to be numb... but only like when its agains the floor I feel it with my hand and stuff and I dont really feel any twitching. I do have muscle spasms but they arn't constant they are just quick twitches every now again and I usually don't get them unless I"m like thinking about ALS. I went to the ER and my Doc and they did a TONE of blood tests and everything was normal and they even did a test to check for muscle deterioration which came back normal. Could this be just a bad virus that has lasted almost four weeks or could these be the begining signs of ALS? As I said the weakness in the arms and legs kinda comes and goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If your only 18 and this doesn't run in the family then it's virtually impossible.  The only way to know for sure if an emg by a neuro but if you can unscrew a coke your hands are fine.

Go to a website on neuro exams and do the tests yourself and you will see you fine.  The test certain muscles and you will be able to test yourself on most.  Just remember that if you have ALS you will have bad reflexes and virtually no strength to do the tests.

Well, the weakness comes and goes which has me kind of confused. The hand symtoms kind of just went away but I had a twitch in my foot for a few days and kind of numb feeling in the arc of my foot. I'm not sure what is going on but sence the symtoms kind of come and go I assume it's a virus. I'll keep checking in and updating. ALS symtomes don't come and go correct? you get them and and it gets worse and doesn't it usually start with one limb? my weakness started in the arms, then arms and legs now its off and on. How long do virus's usually las?

Hello,

I was dx with small fiber neuropathy five years ago.  I have developed the associated symptoms with it.  Lately though I have had a strange sensation in my thumb.  Something like how you describe!  I find it a little strange to find someone else with the same thumb problem.  Maybe you have a neuropathy of some kind.  Have you or your doctor consider neuropathy?

How are things going with you now?  Best wishes.

Jeff

Just one of the blood tests. My thumb has also been feeling weird now to, like awkward when I'm holding stuff. I'm not sure how serious it is. I havent really had any problems with droping things so.

Do you know which test they did to determine muscle deterioration?

Have you had a ct scan or mri? I think that would rule out both Lou Gherigs or Multiple sclerosis. The good thing is that Dr's thuink your ok, so thank god for that!! If you need reassurance I would  definitly have a ct scan or mri.
