Hi! I am sorry--this is the answer to your query--I posted answer to some other query here!
If you do not have any of the above neurological problems then there is a huge chance that you have achalasia as you also probably have some amount of regurgitation due to sliding hernia. This occurs when your lower esophageal muscle (sphincter) doesn't relax properly to let food enter your stomach. Specific tests for diagnosis of achalasia include barium swallow and esophageal manometry (or motility study).
Other possibility is a nerve damage. Swallowing has 3 phases, oral, pharyngeal, and esophageal. Hence it is important to analyze the pattern of dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing and important to know which phase is affected the most. Postoperative dysphagia is analyzed by videofluroscopic swallow studies. Depending on the pattern, the injury may be to the hypoglossal nerve, pharyngeal nerve, superior laryngeal nerve, esophageal plexus of vagus nerve or compression of a spinal nerve.
A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
