Please help....

Hello.
I am really scared about my symptoms.  I am a 34 year old female who is fairly active.  Two months ago I started getting cramps in calf muscles which spread to cramps in my forearms.  Went to family doctor and was told my potassium was borderline low.  She put me on potassium supplements about a month and a half ago.  Cramping has got better, but then numbness and tingling sensations came.  I would have them in my legs, arms and on my scalp.  Those have gotten better but now I have muscle twitching in my arms and legs for about a week now. My doctor did a MRI of my brain, all was normal.  I am still on potassium supplements and started magnesium supplements as well.  The cramping continues in forearms and twitching is a daily thing.  I looked symptoms up on the internet and got so scared when I saw ALS symptoms.  I have no weakness that I know of.  I am making myself sick worrying that I have ALS.  I can't think of anything else.  Other miscellaneous symptoms that I have been having are from time to time I get a case of dizziness.  Sometimes neck muscles burn and are sore.  Someitmes I feel like I am trembling inside or when I hold something I feel my arms start to tremor.  Please help.  Thanks.

I'm glad to see your cramping has gotten better. As mentioned by one of the above posters, many things can cause muscle twitching. Based on your symptoms, numbness and tingling have nothing to do with early symptoms of ALS neither does muscle burning. You will have muscle weakness and/or atrophy in one specific limb first almost always.

From what you have described it sounds to me like it's not ALS. ALS comes up when you do an internet search for twitching or weakness. This is another absurd way the internet works, as it is a VERY rare disease and should be the last thing to pop up on the internet or in your head.

Best wishes
Teddy

Relax, don't try and diagnose yourself over the internet let the doctors do it.

Hi... I came across your post and sometimes have similar symptoms.  I'm pretty sure I have benign fascicular syndrome because I've had twitching for over 2 years now with no other symptoms but they are still a constant source of anxiety for me.  Just wondering what you may have come across.  Thanks.

Hi Rose,

There are many illnesses that can cause muscle twitching... even stress & low magnesium levels can cause muscle twitching. Also, I've seen some fibromyalgia patients with muscle twitching problems and burning sensations.

I'm sending you a link, via PM, that may be able to help you.

Best,
