Severe Chest pain relieved by cold water

I hope I got the right Forum for this...

I'm a 51 year old male and for the past 16 months I have had a strange pain happen to me at random times.  I call it a "severe flash pain" for lack of a better description. It is located in my chest behind the sternum and slightly to the right (not the heart side).  The pain area radiates about the size of a softball and happens very fast with no or little warning.  I have even been raised from sleep with this pain.  I get it at work, at home, pretty much any time of day.  I can’t seem to nail down what triggers the pain like meal time, too much stress, fatty foods, etc. The weird part is this: I get myself to cold water as fast as I can and drink it quickly.  Almost as fast as the pain arrived…it goes away.  The pain is severe and the rush to find cold water is in panic mode to be sure.  I even had to get a cup out of the trash once since there were none around during an attack!  I don’t think it’s a heart issue but I just don’t know.  I do drink coffee in the mornings, don’t exercise much as I should, but I don’t know if that’s it.

very good talk about this.  I feel exactly the same way, I can sense it and then it is suddenly full blown there!

I have the same problem and ice cold water takes it away.  it happens anytime anywhere  I have had to run into a place of business AND ask for ice cold water.  I cannot even drive.  It radiates so quickly sometimes to my jaw and wings in my back.  Scary but I know how to handle them.  sometimes wakes me up at night.  I do have GERD and take Nexium daily.

It's dehydration.  If you don't drink much water it will happen.  I first ran across the dehydration problem because I was frequently getting cramps in my toes and arches.  My son-in-law told me the cramps were from dehydration.  I started drinking eight glasses of water and the foot cramps ceased.  However, a couple of time, when I was on the run and went all day with little water, I got the severe chest pain.  As soon as I drank a big glass iof water the pain went away.  This has only happened to me a few times, and every time it happens it's a day when I didn't drink much water.

To De Bug and all of the folk here, please, admitting to smoking in this day and age is not a socially accepted thingy, however, we really do need to kick in the truth, in the name of medical research. So hands up those who smoke! Damn it! AussieOuch has been outed here! Darn it .... C'mon the rest of you, please do this to help others?
