Mystery Urinary problem

Its a complicated one. My dog started urinating dark blood 3 weeks ago. Out of the blue. No other symptoms whatsoever other than red urine.  He first went to the vet and she checked his prostate, checked his urine's pH etc. NOT for crystals. Sent us away with antibiotics. It didn't clear up, so they then checked his Urine for crystals, no crystals were found. He went under and they took a sterile urine sample, x-rays, inflation, of his bladder, ultrasound etc. They could not see any abnormalities, and his urine culture came back as normal as well. No infection or abnormal cells. His urine has changed to yellow randomly, but then goes red again...
Now they want to check his blood for clotting issues, if they cant find anything he will have a IVU with a specialist...
Have you come across a complicated one like this? He does not strain when he urinates, he is not urinating more frequently either. I have a feeling it is a kidney issue... Any ideas?

well he doesnt have a clotting issue, we are waiting on his bloods for the tick bourn diseases. The past 2 days his urine has been yellow. He is booked in for a specialist on Monday, but I am second guessing it as its a really healthy colour. I will watch him over the weekend I guess.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I commend you for all trying to find out the cause of the problem.

There are several diseases that cause bleeding disorders and anemia, such as the tick borne disease, Ehrlichia.  If blood work has not yet been performed than it would be a good next step.

If the blood tests are negative, than the only thing I have to offer as a cause for your dog's symptoms is in the category of Alternative, Traditional Veterinary Chinese Medicine.  It is a urinary disorder called "Xue-Lin".

From a Chinese medical standpoint Xue-Lin is a sterile, non-infectious disease in which there is blood in the urine.  Xue-Lin can be caused by something that causes your dog to be stressed.  Treatments for Xue-Lin include acupuncture, the Chinese herbal formula: "Xiao Ji Yin Zi", and determining what could be stressful for your dog and eliminating that stress.

I don't know if your dog has Xue-Lin, but it may be worth investigating.  Xiao Ji Yin Zi is available over the counter online.  I would recommend that you have your dog evaluated by a holistic acupuncture vet also.
