HELP! Kitty's claws look like Freddy Kruger, and she turns into him when I try to clip them!!!

My sweet loving kitty turns into a demon pet cemetery cat whenever I even get close to thinking about trimming her claws. I know that when I was a kid my parents used to give our little dog (bichon/lapsa mix) a small dose of childrens benadryl to calm him down when we used the buzzers to shave him down for the summer and it helped TREMENDOUSLY to get the job done without apparent harm. Is it safe to give my cat a tiny dose of childrens medicine to calm her down, and if so how much? Or is there another method or product you can suggest to get the job done?

We recently adopted an Abbysinian cat and she's very fussy about her paws. Love her because she doesn't use her claws at all when playing (a weird Abby trait) but can't stand to have her paws touched. We bundle her in a bath towel - hubby holds her while I pull out a paw and clip. We only do this once a month. Plus we give her a kitty treat when we're done. She growls and grumbles but gets over it quickly enough. We're hoping in time she'll be more accepting of this little pedicure business.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If you don't want to have your cat nails cut at the vets than request a tranquilizer from your vet specifically for your cat.  Don't give your cat anything over the counter.  The doses of over the counter medications are so tiny that it is very easy to over dose cat's.

So...this is the second cat you are having with the "Pet Cemetary" behaviors?
