Is Fancy Feast Safe?

My 19 year old cat has been having diarreah (sp) for about 2 months. I have taken him to 2 vets. The first one said that he probably has a hairball and then proceeded to give him Milk of Magnesia! Needless to say that made it worse. The second vet says that it is food poisoning and the test came back with Clostridium Perfringens Enterotoxin A . I have been feeding him Fancy Feast for 17 years and my other 3 eat it too and they are ok. This vet says that it is definately from the Fancy Feast and I should start feeding him Alpo. I can't find Alpo cat food!
Sorry...my question is: Is Fancy Feast safe to feed my babies?

Fancy feast cat food, unless tainted is fine. Clostridium perfringens is a serious bacteria which usually requires antibiotics to eliminate.

Feeding fancy feast while your cat has diarrhea is not a good idea, neither is Alpo.
Consider a home-made bland diet such as chicken and rice. Access your cats hydration level as diarrhea for two months leads to dehydration which should be corrected with fluids.

Tylan is a product, not labelled for cats but in my experience as a practicing holistic veterinarian for over 15 years that works like a charm to clear most feline (and canine) diarrhea cases in 24-72 hours.

Should you want to follow up with me, that would be fine.

Thank you for your answer. I will go buy a chicken and some rice...I don't ever cook for me but for Jake, I will get busy!!
My vet did give Jake some fluids one time during this mess but nothing lately...and they are closed until Monday...can I do something other than make sure he is drinking his water?
FYI> I called Purina to see if there is an Alpo cat food and they said no...but I found an ad for it online here with Garfield. I also told them again about Jake being sick and that the vet said that it was caused by Fancy Feast...she immediately said that there were no recalls at this time and they wanted me to get the "can" that made him sick! I told her that he had been eating out of a case that I bought...but that the empty cans were gone (today is garbage pickup). She informed me that there were different manufacturing plants in the case! She told me where the plants' number was and I found 5 different manufacturing plant numbers in this one case!!  (This case was wrapped in plastic when I bought it) So, she said that it wouldn't help for me to give her the numbers because I didn't have the empty can! To make things ok...she is sending me a coupon for a case! I am at a loss...

Sorry this is so long...but I wanted you to know about Fancy Feast...just in case you hear of any more sick babies with this same stuff.
Thank you so much,
Laura
