Long toenails

I keep my dog's toenails trimmed regularly, and never ever cut down to the quick. But her nails seem so long, the quick itself is very long. Even though I trim them, the nails still seem much too long. I am concerned it will affect her feet and legs. Is this normal? Or does something need to be done?

Thank you Dr Cheng.
I will make sure they are very regularly trimmed. I do little and often, actually I do them about once a week.
She gets outside! Oh boy -does she! But you made me realize that although she is getting out, running around after that frisbee -she's always doing it on grass!
Aha! So there's the clue. She doesn't walk on enough hard ground. We rarely walk in towns.

Due to her age she may not be wearing her nails down as much as she did when she was younger since she probably is not walking outside as much.

clip her nails a very small amount once per week.  Sanding them down with a dremel device will allow the veins to recede faster.  You can clip a bit off and then dremel just to smooth the edges and this may help.
