Why a two yr old cat would die

I have had this adorable cat for two years since his birth.  Good health until 4 months ago.  Started not eating, loosing weight, throwing up, fever.  Took him in to Dr. - in spite of staying in hospital two nights and a battery of tests, they really didn't know what was wrong with him.  He got well quickly at hospital, returned to being playful, etc.  Went home.  A month later - same thing.  Another battery of tests - now we are in the $1,000+ in bills - and all they say is that he has a bladder infection.  A month later - same thing.  I gave him some appetite pills and he ate and seemed OK.  A week later from Sunday to Wednesday he got so sick, he died in my arms last night. Vet refused to take him in because I owed them that money still.  If he received all of these tests why couldn't they pinpoint the problem?  Did they just rip me off?  No one vet in town would take me in except SPCA to put him to death.  He died in my arms.  One of the doctors calls me up and insinuates something in my home environment.  Are you kidding?  It is superclean here.  They also said I had put a stop to the range of tests they could do - which I didn't do.  $1,000 in tests and they do the same tests again only to come up with a little bacteria in his urine.  What do you think might be possibilities? Am I wrong to be so angry at the Vet? I will NOT reference you.

Sorry about the delay in writing.  I have had software problems since the latest update by medhelp.

Let me say that I am so sorry about your loss!

I am also very sorry that you have had such an aweful experience at your vets, but just as all people are not created equal, not all vet's are created equal.

When your vet said that there may be something in your house I don't believe that he was talking about it being dirty, I think he may have meant that there was some sort of toxin or allergen exposure that you may not have any control over, such as radon, or other chemical, for example, I had a recent patient who had an anaphylaxic reaction to the bleach that the owner was cleaning the bathroom with.  If the owner had not been home at the time (if a cleaning person had cleaned the bathroom instead), and brought the cat immediately to me we might never have known what had caused the problem.  So sometimes we are lucky.  I know none of this will bring back your cat, but please know that everyone who reads this forum has losted a loved one whether a pet or a person, so we all can symphasize.

I would be furious with the vet.  I have no idea the reason why your cat died.  Did they give you any specifics?  Why don't you ask for all the results of all the tests and bring them to another vet to "read" the results in hopes to provide you with some answers.  Best to you.
