animal flees

we have recently been informed from our vet that frontline products no longer work when we worked that out ourselves the hard and expensive way. other than having to pay consultation fees threw the roof, is there anything on the market that works? we recently bought a new kitten, now 10 months old into the house who was ridden in flees and its lead to a bit of a problem. we have been told that brewers yeast powder in the food will help, and vinegar/water mix sprayed onto the fur will help. but it feels wrong spraying them with vinegar!
we dont mind paying, obviously for treatment, but preferbly not the prices charged at the vets if at all helped.
has anyone got any suggestions that will help our poor little creatures to sleep more comfortably at a far more kinda price? thank you for reading

There are many anti-flea products for sale.   You could try Revolution or Advantage in place of Frontline.  I am a traditional and holistic vet and I have not found any holistic product that works as well as the commercial topical anti-flea and tick products.

There are fewer anti-flea products for cats than for dogs.  Vectra, and Confortis could be used for your dog.
