Dr Cheng, Thank you for your answer to my question. I wrote that my 11 lb (pound) poodle is throwing up blood not 11 years old. Please advise on this new information. Thank you

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
11 years old is old enough to have liver disease, GI cancer or some other serious condition.  Please have a fecal exam performed for the usual parasites, and for coccidia, and Giardia, than if the fecal analysis  comes back positive please treat it.  Parasites usually don't cause daily vomiting of blood, and orange colored vomit can indicate liver disease.  Liver flukes are a very nasty parasite that can cause liver disease, however.  I would try to scrape the money together for a blood test for your dog,  which will test for liver and kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, etc.  You can decline other tests that are beyond your ability to pay.  Many diseases including many liver problems can be controlled and treated.

In the meantime you can start giving your dog a couple of herbal supplements that may help until you can get to the vet.  These include: Yunnan Paiyao or Yunan Baiyao (for hemorrhage), and Milk thistle, and Sam-E (for liver problems).  Yunnan Paiyao is available online.  The others are available at good health food stores or online.
