Fleas can still be a serious problem with indoor pets.  Bug zappers will only kill adult fleas.  90% of a flea problem is in the other three life cycle stages that live on the pet or in the environment.  Spot on treatments kill adults and the eggs and it much more effective, safe and the best treatment we have to date.  It is also true that good house keeping with plenty of vacuuming is an important part of the overall control of environmental life cycle stages.

You posted this in the Behavior Forum, but we'll move to the General Health.

The simple answer is Frontline Plus.  I've used it for over a decade and never had a problem.  The compound is very safe, stays in the fat layers of the skin and does not go systemic.  The compound is so safe it is used in drinking water in third world counties to control mosquito larvae.

Ask your veterinarian.
