hip pain and creaky bones

When I stand up after sittting for a period of time my legs are stiff and achy in the joints but recently my hip has really been bothering me.  It hurts until it feels like it has cracked then it's better until I sit, then stand up again. I've noticed this for a long time and recently my roomate has pointed out that my joints crack and pop every time I stand up, loud enough that others hear it.  I've been very active lately and when I move for an extended period the pain goes away. But on the contrary when I am less active my leg joints are very stiff and achy, more so in the colder seasons.  My mom seems to have the same problem but refuses to see a doctor.  She is also very active.  Her parents have had hip and knee replacements.  My mom and I both have symptoms of restless leg syndrome, especially the urge to move. I move my legs constantly when I'm sitting in my desk chair.

Is RA hereditary? Could this be just another symptom of restless leg syndrome?  Are they related?  And why would the pain stop during activity.  Could running and other strenuous excercise worsen a possible injury even though I have no pain during that activity?

I forgot to mention that my pain is worse in the morning then subside after I move around for a while. Then if I sit down I have to work it out again.

I have had lower back pain for many years . I finally broke down and went to see the Dr. when my back had a very bad spasam and I could barely move without helped. I was put on muscle relaxents . Then returned when it wasen't to bad for an MRI . It showed I had degenerative arthritis. So I was put on tylenol high dose prescription for about 15 years. Mean while my knees started to crackle and hurt . I couldn't sneek up on my then teenage son going upstairs because he could hear me coming. So I finally went to a specialist for my knees turned out I did'nt have any cartliage under my knee caps . He told me to come back when I was really in pain. ( what the heck did he think I was there for) needless to say I never went back to him. To make a long story a bit short some types of arthritis are hereditary. I now have it everywhere. I was sent to an endocronologist this week who told me I had to have serious therepy soon because I have osteoarthritis and osteoperosis. She told me my Bone Mass Density was so bad I could have a spontaneous break anywhere even just walking. I was totally shocked. Hope she gets me that therep soon . Or Im in deep trouble. Because of complications From over use of pain meds.  including tylenol and ibuprophin my liver is now compromise and I can not take anything for pain so if I break something I'm really in serious trouble. So get a bone density test done asap. And keep in touch. cat33
