severe arthrits in hip

I have severe osto artritis in both hips. i have had one hip replacement in 2009. i fear the othe one is getting just as bad as the right one was. i am in alot of pain right now, even with the simple things like walking. . i want to try to stall off the surgery until spring of 2010. what can i do to keep myself pain free until then.  my ortho guy doesn't believe in a lot of pain meds. either. I am also recovery from ovc stage 2  . about a year out of chemo.

I don't think there are many options for you Helen..Pain meds are about it. Are you on celebrex or any similar drugs? Before my surgery, I just flat out told my gp.."your job is to keep my pain in check so I can work until surgery". Sometimes you have to put your foot down with these guys! I had both my hips replaced (resurfaced) on July 22..Been out rassling with the snowblower today, and shoveling up a storm LOL!. But, while I can see 2 different ski areas from my house, think skiing isn't in the cards for me this season..Best of luck,

PS: I can also relate to your cemo...Did 72 weeks of killer combo drugs to rid myself of hep c. Finished up (succesfully) 1 1/2 years before my hip surgery.

I am glad you are recovering and hope all goes well!  Regarding the suspected need for surgery on your left hip, has your ortho tried cortisone injections to relieve your pain?  If that does not work, you may want to ask for a referral to a pain management doctor.  They do more than write scripts for pain meds but that may be what you need.  It is important to get your pain under control as it can take on a life of it's own.
