menstral problems/ pain

I'm 21 years old and have had my period since I was in the 5th grade. I have been using tampons since I was 13 and have never had any complications with them. to start off the problem I'm having I will start from the beginning,  my period was two weeks late and I was getting ready to take a pregnancy test because I ha all the symptoms but I also knew my periods never come when they are supposed to. when my period started it was very painful and very heavy up until I ha passed two palm sized clots which is not normal for me. my period then was light and no pain. today I went to go take out my tampon because it was in there for the time length allowed (period almost over) I felt a sharp pain upon removal. then bleed became very heavy immediately ! what does this mean and what should I do?

Thanks for using the forum.

I would recommend speaking with your doctor. It is normal  to pass some small clots during your period, but the clots you describe in your question were not normal for you. Abnormal clots can indicate a few different things such as fibroids, hormone fluctuation, miscarriage. It might be best to speak with your doctor and make sure that everything is OK.

The pain that you describe when removing your tampon, may be because it was a lighter day and the tampon was too large for the blood flow. Make sure that you use the smallest tampon you can for the menstrual flow that day.
