Heartbeat (5 almost 6 wks)

Is it possible to feel your baby's heartbeat if your baby is up against your stomach?

Okay. Thank you for answering my above question. Now I have another one. Well I have been struggling with allergies for about a week now, but now I think I am actually getting sick. I had a hard time sleeping last night because of my allergies and my sore throat. Then I woke up this morning and my body is starting to ache, and since I'm almost 6 wks my question is besides Zyrtec and Claritin for allergies, what else can I take for the sore throat and aching body? Or should I just go and see my Dr?

Thanks for using the forum.

At 5-6 weeks pregnant it is not possible to feel the baby's heart beat. The baby's heart beat is first audible to the doctor using a handheld fetal dopplar at about 8 weeks. The baby is so tiny at this point (about 1/4 of an inch or the size of a lentil bean) that it is not possible to feel it's movement.

I would recommend that you speak to your doctor about what you are feeling. It could be possible that it is your own heart rate. Try counting it if possible. An adult heart rate is probably 60-90 beats per min. A fetal heart rate is 120-160 beats per min.

Congratulations!
