Numb Pain

I have woken up recently in the middle of the night with cold sweats and strange pain and numbness in both my arms, stretching down from my shoulders.
This only happens when I'm sleeping, and the pain and numbness, dissipates a few minutes after I wake up.
Sometimes this happens 2-3 times a night, but not every night. None of my sleeping or eating habits have changed.
I can only describe it as the most uncomfortable pain I ever experienced.
Could this be stress related or maybe a change in the way I sleep, or should I seek professional help?

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

What you have described could be related to stress- have you been going through a particularly stessful time lately?  That being said, I still think that you should be evaluated by your doctor.  Night sweats and pain/numbness in your arms are not "little" symptoms, they are serious symptoms and you should find out what is causing them.  If it is anxiety, then stress managment and antianxiety medications could help.  If it is something else causing these symptoms then a different treatment would be appropriate.  Either way, these are fairly disruptive symptoms that are occuring fairly fequently and I think you would benefit from an evaluation.  Good luck.

Hi Bridget,
Thanks so much for the advice, I thought I should first try a few idea's before posting, just to make sure the results were consistent.
For the last few days my hubby gave me a neck rub... and massaged my shoulders, seem to do the trick.
It some how is related to stress and a form of anxiety attack.
So I'm happy to report all is back to normal, and I'm getting extra back and neck rubs at not charge...
Many thanks again.
