emergency ct-scan

hi.my mum last week went for a chest x-ray after been refered by her gp. she has been experiencing breathlessness, chest pain and shoulder pain. Four days after the x-ray she had a call to say a emergency ct-scan had been booked with a appointment straight after with a chest specialist. she is going tommorow. it will have only been a week since her x-ray. i have been trying to reasure her as she had breast cancer 8 years ago. what could they be looking for. many thanks.

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

A Ct Scan will provide a much more clear and detailed picture than an x- ray will.   It is possible that the radiologist saw something on the x-ray that he/she needs a better picture of.  This could be nothing, or it could be something more serious.  Unfortunately, you won't know until the CT Scan is done.  So, all you can do is to continue to reassure your mom and if she wants you to, go with her for moral support if she is worried.  Good luck and I hope this turns out to be nothing.

hi. well my mum went for her scan. there is a tumour growing on the right hand side and they said it is eating her rib cage. she is going for a biopsy in the next 2 weeks to see if it is secondary breast cancer or a different kind. Any support would be good? xxx
