small scab on jawline that does not go away

About 6 weeks ago,I noticed a small dry patch on my jawline about  2 inches away from my ear.It seemed to shrink and harden and then I picked it off because it was annoying me,within a few days the dry patch had returned which again turned into a scab. The scab peels away easily from the edges but the centre does not want to come away.It does not bleed, itch and there is only 1scab.I have tried not to pick at it,but when I am uptight it becomes a habit and  dont realise that I am doing it.I am healthy apart fro having thyroid problems 2 years ago,now treated.I am getting very woried about it,since I read an article about skin cancer.I hate sunbathing, and avoid the sun as much as possible. Please help me stop worying!!!!

Thank you for your advice,I have been so worried.I know I should not pick at it,but it becomes a bad habit and once you start you cannot stop.Do you think it has become more stubborn because of this? The scab is thicker now and harder to remove, almost like its stuck on with glue.I will take your advice, although I have never seen liquid band aid. Thanks

HI and thanks for using the forum.

This has probably been persistent since you have been picking at it.  You could try using something like liquid band aid on it to see if that helps prevent you from scratching at the area.  You can purchase liquid band aid at your local drug store and you paint it on the the area and let it dry. It is probably either a cyst or a pimple.  IF after a week or so it does not show improvement, then you should probably see your dermatologist about it and have it checked out.

Good luck,

Bridget
