symtoms from an asd?

Hi , I'm a 39 year old female and I was born with an ASD I also have asthma . About 6 years ago my family doctor put me on atenenol for IST. My resting H.R. is about 120 without the medicine.I have never had any blood pressure problems. For the last month or so I have had severe swelling of my ankles and feet. I went to the local er yesterday and my blood pressure was 225/100 they did an ekg and blood work and chest xray and said they think the swelling is due to my lungs possible c.o.p.d not my heart and that I should follow up with family doc over high b.p. My question is does the ekg and chest xray rule out the swelling being caused by my heart in any way because years ago I was told that it would be good to have the A.S.D. closed to avoid problems later in life. thank you

Hi and thanks for using the forum.

A BP of 225/100 is very high.  Did they give you medication in the ER for it?  Has it come down?  You really need to be seen by your doctor to be evaluated right away, preferably your cardiologist.   This needs to be addressed.  I don't think that the EKG and CXR can completely rule out any heart involvement.   Good luck.
