Itchy Back, nothing important as such

just a little question, but when getting into a caughing fit, does anyone else start getting a really itchy back that seems almost unreachable, as if you cant scratch it no matter what you do. and the only very temporary way to relieve this is by what i can only describe as tensing your throat.. and raising your chin

im just wondering what this could be and if its normal for most asthmatics

Thanks

This is an old thread but I want to share in case I dont happen across it again. My son has severe itching back and sometimes front when he has an asthma attack. I believe I have found the cause of it and we are set to see a doc today for possible mast cell issues.  One of the symptoms related to mast cell disease is priuritis/itching when triggered by an allergen.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mast_cell_activation_syndrome

I don't have asthma but my Gerd manifests in chronic bronchitis. Before a doctor told me that a daily dose of claritin and famatodine would help avoid my semiannual bout of bronchitis, I would be able to tell it was coming on because my upper back, under my right shoulder blade would have a deep itch. Just started feeling it again today so I know it's coming (doesn't happe  often now and I'm gonna try to hit it with some decongestants to hold it off). Anyway I Googled and found y'all. Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy.

Hello, I get the same symptoms.. Itchy under my chin, itchy back, coughing and wheezing, usually at night. I read that they are asthma symptoms and that asthma symptoms can be caused by an allergic reaction to food, drink, pollen, dust etc, even if you don't usually suffer with asthma. I sometimes used my mums inhaler when it happened, but when I read this, tried taking and ANTIHESTHAMINE to find it MASSIVELY REDUCED THE SYMPTOMS. I started to keep a diary of everything I ate and drank, and if I'd been near trees etc. I'm becoming aware that I'm probably allergic to shell fish (gutted as I love sea food, but at least it's not the wine!). Also prawns/ shellfish is a very common trigger of allergies. I would suggest that you keep a diary, and work out what your trigger is, then avoid that and see your doctor because asthma and allergic reactions to food can be fatal. Hope you all solve the problem. I wish you well

Hi. I get the same symptoms everyone described here. When my back starts to itch it's a sign I'm about to get an attack. I though that it was asthma. I went to several doctors and even had a asthma test done (more than once). The doctor even gave me an asthma pump. The pump (inhaler) use to work sometimes. When I had an attack I would go to the bathroom and turn on the hot water so the room could steam up. I'll sit there for about 10-15 min.  This helped me somewhat.  However one day I discover a allergic medicine prescribed by my doctor. It's call fluticasone propionate.  This is the only thing that works for me. This is by prescription only so you have to get it from your doctor. I'm sharing this because maybe it can help someone. I figure out that it wasn't asthma that I was getting, instead it was an allergic reaction.

Okay so there are several of us who get itchy backs when our asthma starts bugging us. Does anyone know why it happens? What is the connection between trouble breathing and itching back?

I, too have an itchy back. Mine begins when I start to slightly cough. It's like a warning that I'm about to have an attack. it's mainly in between my shoulder blades and sometimes I have to use a big plastic spoon to itch, because people get tired of itching it for me. This started not too long ago and seemed to happen out of nowhere. I had VERY mild asthma until about a year ago. We moved from New York to FL and the conditions and things in fl caused me to use my inhaler all the time. It also caused me to be put on allergy medication

I'm trying to search the net find out if this is normal.

I get an itchy back as well to but my asthma is severe and I have to use inhalers all of the time, I am also on singulair.  I use my bathroom wall to scratch up against.

Yeah, believe it or not that happens to me, I just googled 'asthma itchy back' to see if anyone else has a similar correlation. I'm 21 and have mild asthma, I use an inhaler once in awhile, usually only triggered by cat/dog hair. But when I start coughing and my asthma starts kicking in, i use my inhaler. The back doesn't start to itch until I use it, and scratching it feels soooooo good. If I get a particular feeling, I also hold my breath and raise my chin, it feels like I'm stretching something.
