I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on.

In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems. The natural anti-inflammatories are more effective then the steroids and there are no side effects.

Those two medications are used for different things and therefore are taken at different times.

Ventolin: rescue medication if you are having problems breathing.  You take the prescribed dosage and it should ease your breathing (if it doesn't or you have to use it more than 3 times a week - not including before exercise - you need a doctor check up)

Flovent: a controlling, day to day medication.  This one helps reduce the overall inflammation to control the asthma.  You should take this every day at the dose prescribed whether or not you have asthma symptoms.

A doctor MAY have prescribed you to take the ventolin before you take the flovent to ensure the flovent reached deep into the lungs but give them a call and double check.  In that case - ventolin first to open the lungs and then flovent to reduce inflammation.

I am asthmatic myself, so I can say with certainty that you take your ventolin first and then you take your reliever.
In your case flovent.
Hope that has helped, making sure you take them correctly can be just as important as taking the medication as well.
