My son does not have that genetic fault factor, he was tested and so were we (His parents). They discovered that almost all kids with Autism have a "fault" somewhere in the DNA strings; it is not the same fault for each autistic child though so they can't pin point it in order to produce a "test" they just know that having a 'fault' of some description is a common factor. Experimental testing was available here late last year and we volunteered to be part of a test study done in Vancouver.
We were told that kids with fragile x (although it is in itself a genetic disorder) are in general also on the autism spectrum, but that is just what we were told when he was diagnosed. He was tested for this and several other genetic conditions that often result in kids being on the spectrum
also just to rule out any other factors that may be contributing to his autism.
Our son actually has Hydrocephalus, mild CP and some brain damage to the left hand side of his brain. Interestingly enough European studies are beginning to show that a significant proportion of kids who have hydro from birth are also on the spectrum.
they have discovered that there is a genetic factor with autism in most cases tho.... they found that out about last june as i remember it.....
really I dont think that fagile x is related i i know that it is something that can be confused for autism but it does have different symptoms
I have two sons, my oldest has autism my 4 year old does not.
My sister is married to my husbands brother, we asked our genetics specialist about the chances of their children have autism and she replied that almost no difference between them and any other couple having a child. Whilst it is certainly true that for a couple with one autistic child the chances of another are higher the chances for other family members are pretty much the same as the rest of the general population. This is of course provided there is no genetic cause for the autism (such as fragile x etc)
i reall dont think there have been studies on this
but i think the stats are that 1 in 80 boys will have it and 1 in 110 in general will have it so that is a very high chance as it is
i have one autistic child who is 5 and i just had another baby in Feb and his chances of having autism were 1 in 8 and so far we are extremely blessed and he is showing absolutely no signs of it
the other problem with it is that no one really knows what causes the disorder so if it is genetic then your child would have a greater chance and if its environmental i would think that the chances of having a child with it grow more likely everyday....
are your children thinking of having kids in the near future?
when i was pregnant with my 3rd child i was very sure to only eat organic foods/meats (except milk) because everything these days are pumped with hormones... i took absoulutley no medication, anything that is not natural do not put in your body when you are growing a baby... i did not even wear deodorant because it contains aluminium which is a heavy metal which some people think havoc the bodies of autistic people, no immunizations for me when preg except for my RH - shot
I also delayed his immunizations he is 7 months and he has only had a tetnus and that is because he had an accident and he NEEDED it
you need to think before you do anything and then when the baby is born make sure that the baby is ver HIGHLY socialized... I talk to my baby non stop and now he is already calling me mama and says baba with intent and then he babbles a lot
