He was product of uncomplicated pregnancy, full term, vaginal birth, 10# 8oz. at birth, all milestones met, has been developing "fine" is big 50# but solid even though only 3, he has well developed language skills, is socially active , somewhat shy but not out of the ordinary, has developed fine motor skills for his age, has received all immunizations until we broke off in the midst of H1N1 vaccinations after concern last 3-4months of the following: at times, sometimes when over excited or over tired but not always the case he does the following - all of a sudden while playing he may stand up almost on tip toes, arch back slightly , mouth usually opens and hands shake or waive at side this happens for 10-20 seconds then he goes back to whatever he was doing in an average day may happen handful of times on occasion it has happened 6-8 times in a day, when ask him if he is okay he sometimes responds "I was catching my breath" almost seems seizure like, he is doing well in pre-school teacher says she has not noticed this behavior , pediatrician says he is "fine" I am concerned , any thoughts , do I seek pediatric neurologist evaluation or what ?

Hi,  I have a child with a developmental delay----  here is what is different from your boy and mine . . . mine didn't do fine in preschool, didn't do well with friends, and was noticable.  His delay is semi mild and we work to keep it in check.  But if your son is doing well in preschool, language is good, motor skills are good-----  I would try not to worry about something like autism or sensory integration disorder.  Just my thoughts.  Now my son's symptoms did become more pronounced as he got older----  but he started preschool at almost 3 and was there for 2 hours one morning a week only.  Started in Sept----  by Oct the preschool teacher told me of her concerns.  I tell you this to eliviate your mind a bit.  Good luck.

hi, you can also take him to developmental and behavioral pediatrician.  If anything, they as well as the pediatric neurologist can diagnose it.  I took my son to both however,  I preferred  the developmental and behavioral pediatrician...which we see every 6 mo.
my son is diagnosed PDD NOS and is mild.  If you have any concerns its better to be safe and get him any help he might need while he is still so young.  I definately would not listen to the pediatrician  saying "hes fine"  that seems to be a standard answer.  For your peace of mind, maybe it is nothing but at least you will know and the more you know the more you can help him.  I see your in NYC...we use a developmental and behavioral pediatrician at Schneiders Childrens Hospital...affiliated with northshore LIJ.
