my nephew

i am hoping to find some answers. my nephew has been having these episodes where he will be holding a toy and all of a sudden the other hand and fingers will start twiching all the way up his arm. the reason i say episode is because if you call out his name he will "snap out of this" but it seems to be happening more and more. i took to pedi and he said to take my nephew to a neurologist. mentioned this could be autism or seizures. however, he shows no ther signs of autism. he had a problem 1 year ago after a vaccine that he started blinking uncontrolled for a full day. the pedi said this was ok. the vaccine was hep b, flu shot and chicken px vaccine all done together. please let me know your thoughts on this.
thanks

HI I HAVE A CHILD WHO HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH  PDD-NOS, BUT NOT AUTISM . I HAD ALSO THOUGHT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE VACCINES HE HAD GOTTEN TOGETHER BUT EVERY DOCTOR AND SPECIALIST SAYS IT IS NOT LIKELY TO BE FROM THAT AND NO PROOF HAS BEEN FOUND EITHER TO SUGGEST IT... ALTHOUGH I DO AGREE I THAT A MOTHER KNOWS WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG AND USUALLY KNOWS WHAT HAS HAPPEND THAT IT GOT TO THAT POINT.. .. MY SON SHOWS SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF AUTISM BUT NOT ALL.  I SUGGEST SEEING A DEVELOPEMENTAL PEDIATRICAN FIRST BEFORE THE NEUROLOGIST.. ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK ONLY A NEUROLOGIST CAN DIAGNOSE , BUT THE TRUTH IS THE DEVELOPEMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN CAN DIAGNOSE BETTER BECAUASE THEY EVALUATE AND  OBSERVE AND TEST THE CHILD EVEN THROUGH FREE PLAY , AND MAJORITY OF THE TIME THE DEVELOPMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN WILL TELL YOU IT IS NOT NECCESSARY TO PUT THE CHILD THROUGH NEUROLOGY (WHEN DIAGNOSED WITH PDD-NOS OR AUTISM)....  ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE STATED THE "EPISODES" WICH I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED WITH MY CHILD I SUGGEST STILL SEEING THE DEVELOPEMENTAL PEDIATRICIAN FIRST.. ONE IS BECAUSE USUALLY WITH SEIZURES A PERSON DOESNT JUST "SNAP OUT OF IT" WHEN BEING CALLED.. A SEIZURE TAKES ITS COURSE.. AND TWO, IF IT WERE SEIZURES THE PED. SHOULD HAVE SUGGESTED GOING TO THE E.R. AND GETTING EXAMED RIGHT AWAY, UNTREATED SEIZURES EVEN FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME CAN CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE AND TO ME THATS SERIOUS TO JUST BLOW OFF AND SAY "MAYBE HE SHOULD SEE A NEUROLOGIST KNOWING JUST TO SCHEDUAL AN APPT WITH THEM COULD TAKE OVER A MONTH AND GOD FORBID THERE ARE MORE SIEZURES HAPPENING THAT ARE NOT BEING TREATED.. IM NOT TRYING TO SCARE YOU AT ALL BUT THESE ARE THE REASONS WHY I THINK IT MAY NOT BE SEIZURES BUT IM NO DOCTOR..... IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A CHANCE IT MAY BE SEIZURES PLEEEASE TAKE HIM TO THE E.R.AND TELL THEM ABOUT HIS EPISODES SO THEY CAN EXAM HIM .. AT LEAST THAT WAY IF IT IS HE WILL GET MEDICATION TO HELP UNTIL HE SEES A SPECIALIST...   IF U WANNA CONTACT ME FEEL FREE,, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

A lot of people think that getting so many shots together is a cause of autism but there is no actual proof other than mother's intuition (not saying I don't believe it, just stating the facts). I have a 3 year old son with autism and I have met many, many kids on the spectrum through various activities my son has been involved with, and I have never seen the kind of random arm spasms you have described. I'm not a medical expert but it sounds more like seizures to me. I agree that a neurologist evaluation is a good idea. That is who diagnosed my son's autism and I know they also deal with seizure disorders. Good luck!
