Daycare says that he plays well with other kids...not as much as other kids play with each other but once again he is new and he is used to playing by himself being he was an only child. He likes to sing songs and listens very well at story time. She has never mentioned anything about the toe walking or hand flapping. Could he do both of these things and not be autistic?
It is hard to give you an answer on this....The first two things you mentioned (hand flapping and toe walking) are signs of Autism, but much of the rest is normal 2yr old behavior. He is only 2 so his vocabulary will not go beyond 1-2 word phrases much yet. Sounds like this could be one of those times when he is "trying to find himself" a bit with the Daycare change and the New Baby in the house, but again, this is hard to pin point wihtout knowing more. My suggestion for this, and I don't usually EVER say this, but give it a bit more time. If the hand flapping and the toe-stepping seem to increase or his speech does not develope into more, THEN it could possibly be a concern. In all honesty though, he sounds like a typical 2yr old boy. :o)
Did your past child care provider mention any concerns to you about this?
