ANA=antinuclear antibodies, this doesn't mean, as all too many have supposed, that you're making antibodies to self.  It could mean that you've been infected with something that is small enough to be in the nucleus of your cells.  Viruses and mycoplasmas are a couple things.  Mycoplasmas just love the space in knees to play around in, and I've found they're behind a lot of joint popping and snapping too!  Niko has something for them with the coconut oil, messes with their cell envelope.  Still, mycoplasmas are hard to be rid of, could take as long as 5yrs.  The veterinarians are somewhat ahead of people physicians, I found a lot of my problems in autopsies done on mycoplasma infected cats.

Hi miesgka.

Can you go on a carb-free diet for a few weeks as a test?
That means no grains, no sugars (incl. artificial sugars), no dairy, no alcohol.
The only carbs allowed would be from vegetables.
Your energy would come from coconut oil -which only goes through the liver it does not store as fat and puts no insulin load on the body and does not produce inflammation-do not use other cooking oils as most alter when heated, not even olive oil- and has superb medicinal properties.
Do not listen to the propaganda where even today, after all the studies out there and all the news about coconut oil many so called authorities are still advising against it, being a saturated fat.
I have studied coconut oil and its dramatic positive effects on health for years and I have at least four books in my possession on coconut oil !

This diet might be bit tough to adhere to, but it might bring surprising results. Well worth trying.
If you need the science behind this, let me know.

Take care.
Niko

Classic hypothyroid signs, as najii1 mentioned, however the thinning of the eyebrow is NOT a diagnostic criterion, just a symptom of hypo, commonly experienced .

The challenge is to get properly diagnosed (conventional testing misses a
significant percentage of low thyroid you need to get Free T3 , Free T4 and Reverse T3 for CELLULAR thyroid function instead of the standard T3, T4 and TSH) .
You may want to do on your own Dr. Barnes Basal Temperature Test for thyroid testing.
Just look it up online and follow the simple instructions precisely.

One thing to note is that hypothyroid could be secondary, with low adrenal
function as primary (not recognized by conventional endocrinology until it becomes an adrenal crisis!) So treating the low thyroid with increasing thyroid meds , is contraindicated in this case.

When there's significant organ involvement in hypothyroid conditions, there's an increased risk of the initiation of serious disease processes, such as Lupus, depending on the patient's own genotype (DNA) and phenotype.

Also look into underlying nutritional and mineral deficiencies, like iron, magnesium, selenium, B12, D3, iodine, zinc, but you will need both serum and tissue levels (for minerals) for accuracy.
Beware of  conventional ranges for many nutrients/minerals/vitamins that might be too low, specially in N.America.
This in combination of subclinical states of low thyroid and /or low adrenal function are enough to keep a patient sick for life, w/o any diagnosis!

Please post again or message me directly, however, note that any of my comments are not intended to replace medical advice.

Best wishes!
Niko

Together with the hair loss, have you noticed your eyebrows getting thinner or disappearing altogether? That would be a sign of hypothyroidism.

I responded in your other thread but will copy and paste it here also:

"At a quick glance what kind of auto immune dz and does the lab work mean positively that I have an auto immune Dz?"
--------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot tell you for sure if you have an Autoimmune Disorder, but your symptoms and lab work certainly point in that direction.

Positive ANA: ANAs are the signature autoantibodies of the rheumatic disease . The presence of high concentrations of antibody (titer >1:640) should make one suspicious that an autoimmune disorder is present.

Positive Anti RNP: Anti-RNP antibodies are found in about 40% to 60% of patients with SLE (Systemic Lupus), but are not specific for SLE, being a defining feature of MCTD (Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder). These antibodies can also occur in low titers and low frequencies in other rheumatic diseases including RA and scleroderma.

Positive Sjorgens SSB: Anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB have been detected in high frequency in patients with Sjögren’s syndrome and in SLE, but also in patients with photosensitive dermatitis. Either one or both of the anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB may be positive. They do not necessarily both have to be positive.

Low iron binding: Lower-than-normal TIBC may mean: Hemolytic anemia, Hypoproteinemia, Inflammation, Liver disease, Malnutrition, Pernicious anemia, Sickle cell anemia

Low Vitamin D: Low Vit D levels are common in some Autoimmune Disorders

High LDL:  This may be due to any number of causes

"I have a list of symptoms that brought me to my Rheumy....
1) extreme Fatigue
2) muscle weakness
3 )hair loss
4) headaches
5) feet swelling on and off
6) popping and clicking in my knees, hips, back
7) am yet again home with pneumonia"

Your symptoms are symptoms that are common with many Autoimmune Disorders. Autoimmune Disorders can affect many organ systems and many parts of the body so symptoms will correspond with the body parts that are affected. Fatigue and weakness are hallmark symptoms of Autoimmune Disorders and joint aches and pains are hallmarks of many of them too. The inflammation that accompanies Autoimmune Disorders causes many varied symptoms as well. Several of the Autoimmune Disorders can affect the lungs making people more susceptible to lung problems and infections.

Your Rheumatologist may order more testing to try to discern which Autoimmune Disorder you have.

Many people have more than one Autoimmune Disorder so it will take a good Rheumatologist to sort out the test results and the symptoms and decide what your diagnosis is.

A good Rheumatologist will start you on medications to slow the progression of the disease and to treat the symptoms.

I already had a positive ANA when I went to see my Rheumatologist. She ran a truckload of tests based on my positive ANA, my history, and my symptoms. As soon as my Vit D level came back low and my SS-A came back positive, she called me back into the office immediately and started me on Vit. D 50,000 per week and Hydroxychloroquin 200 mg twice a day. Her diagnosis was Sjogren's Syndrome. She then ordered a minor salivary gland biopsy and confirmed the diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome. I have been on the medications since Sept. 2013 and have noticed an improvement in symptoms.

These antibodies can also occur in low titers and low frequencies in other rheumatic diseases including RA and scleroderma.  So many times, autoimmune diseases run in packs, so you "could" be dealing with Sjogren's / SLE or / MCTD (since you feet and ankles are swelling) What does your doctor say?
