Severe Lower Back Pain

I am 20 and have been experiencing lower back pain since June of last year when my daughter was born .It took them three tries to get the epidural in my spine and I still felt every agonizing moment of my daughter's birth. They had a trainee do it and I thought she was put the needle a bit low to begin with. Anyway, ever since then I've felt a little pain in that exact area. Just recently though, it has gotten a lot worse. I developed this squishy buldge on my lower spine and it hurts so bad, especially if I stay in the same position for more than a few minutes. I also feel it in my butt and legs and occasionally my toes will go numb. I have read a little about something called a syrinx and I just wanted to know if anyone knows more about it or has any other possible diagnosis. Doctors aren't really helping so this is something I need to figure out on my own if possible. Thank you for your help.

Hi
Im a PT  and have treated women with this issue.
I suggest you go to a spine pain specialist- called a physiatrist.(a physical medicine MD).
You'll get great care for the long haul with more time, attention and follow thru than lots of what you get with orthopedic MDs
good luck

I have no idea what you said with all that fancy lingo... but it sounds very painful. Lol. I hope there isn't just one solution to my problem. If I am right and it is a syrinx, there are a few options to correct such. Thank you very much for your reply and God bless.

Thanks for the comment, but I hope there is an option to get rid of this curse. It isn't just back pain... It is something that causes pain everywhere else, it just originated in the lower back area. I will keep you and your wife's old friend in my prayers because no one deserves to hurt like this. God bless you and your family. Good Luck.

Surgical decompression of the foramen magnum and upper cervical cord is the only useful treatment, but surgery usually cannot reverse severe neurologic deterioration. An MRI would be needed to properly diagnose.
Good luck!

My wife's old friend has the same exact problem.  She had an epidural with her first son in 2000 and has had back pain where the injection was ever since.  As far as I know from what vie been told there's nothing you can do.  My wife and I just learned that we have a baby on the way.  I will be checking credentials before I allow anyone to put a needle in her back.  Trainees need to practice this procedure on corpses if you ask me.  There can be too many complications from an epidural if not done right and by someone who knows what they are doing.  Too many nerves are in the back and suffering for the rest of your life is just not fair.  I hope you find some relief, I know how you feel.  I just had a fusion and two disk replacements in my low back after three years of cornice pain.
