2 years of Sciatica

Hello. If any ideas could be offered about sciatica I would be pleased to hear some.

Had a slipped disc since april 2009. it is now march 2011. Coming up for 2 years of having it. I had a microdiscectomy in november 2010. Im almost 4 months on from the op now.

I have been in pain for 2 years and whilst the pain is hugely inconvenient, it is the lack of being able to get out and do sports that is so insufferable. I am 27 now and am not some star athlete, but i used to play sunday football and i used to enjoy staying active and fit. I was also hoping to become a ski instructor, but how can you teach skiing if you struggle to walk properly?

I've tried everything. been quaffing ibuprofen like jelly beans for two years now (not literally) and have tried various different things. been on courses of dyclofenac which certainly helped, but does not seem to be a solution.

I have been at a point, where the pain is bad and constant, but bareable for a long time. It's the fact that I can't get out for a run or do anything active is what really gets to me.

the doctors said give it time so many times, which is fair enough, but i have now given it 2 years and 1 microdiscectomy.

I've tried all sorts of exercise - strengthening etc. but it hasn't worked. since the op I haven't quite had the motivation to do core exercises which is what the docs say will help. I will try to do some of that.... but i've done so much of that before and it hasnt really worked, so i havent found the motivation to do much since the op.

Is there anything that I'm missing or might want to try? It's so frustrating.

Is it possible that I have this pain for something unrelated to the slipped disc? because having had it cut away, the pain remains.

Also, seriously, check out this site, www.****.com (go to "Fix Pain").  This site has really good advice that any doctor I have seen about my herniated disc has failed to say to me.  I did every single thing this site said about fixing back pain (along with my inversion table) and slowly but surely things got better.

I have literally changed the way I stand, sit, bend, relax, and in general move. If you need anymore advice I'll try to help you as much as I can.

Hi, Sorry to hear you're suffering.  It *****.

Try an inversion table, no joke, it changed my life from misery back to functional.  I got mine from Costco, they have great return policy.  When I first got mine I did twice a day for as long as I could stand it (about 4 - 5 min).  Then after a couple of weeks, I did it once a day and now I use it once every 2 to 3 days.

Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

2 and a 1/4 years of sciatica, one microdiscectomy, several courses of antibiotics, still going.....

exercise and stretching only flares it up.... shall I just write off the rest of my active life?

who needs to leave the house really .... I'll just stay indoors for the next 40 years.

love it.....
